Every fall, I hear the same thing from women in my practice:
“I thought I’d feel more motivated once the kids were back in school… but I’m still tired, unfocused, and just off.”
Here’s what I want you to know:
There’s nothing wrong with you. And no, you’re not the only one feeling this way.
Let’s talk about why this season messes with your energy and mood—and what you can start doing today to shift it.
Why am I stuck feeling irritable and overwhelmed?
Quick tip: Your nervous system might need a rhythm reset.
With the change in daylight, the rush of new routines, and everyone needing something from you at once, your stress hormones can get thrown out of sync fast. You might feel more anxious, reactive, or just… done.
To calm the nervous system spike, your body needs micro-moments of safety—little signals that you’re not in survival mode. One of my favorite places to start?
A 5-minute “mind break” once or twice a day. Step outside, put your phone down, breathe deeply. That’s it. No to-do list. No screen. No productivity. Just space.
Simple shifts like this help regulate cortisol and retrain your stress response—which leads to more patience, clearer thinking, and steadier moods. I like to personally get outside and take a 5 min walk through our forest or sit outside at our fite pit.
Why am I sleeping, but still waking up tired?
Quick tip: Your circadian rhythm is likely out of sync.
Fall messes with your body clock. With earlier sunsets and erratic schedules, your brain can lose track of when it’s supposed to feel alert—or tired.
If you’re tossing and turning or waking up groggy, you need to reset your sleep rhythm.
Here’s a tip I give my clients all the time:
Get 10 minutes of natural light within the first hour of waking up. Even if it’s cloudy. Even if you’re in your bathrobe.
Morning light sets your internal clock so your body knows when to release melatonin later. Pair that with a simple wind-down routine (think: no screens 30 minutes before bed, magnesium spray, bedtime herbal tea).
Sleep isn’t just about rest. It’s when your hormones repair, your brain resets, and your body does its deepest healing work.
I’m so busy, where do I even start when everything feels off?
Quick tip: Pick one habit and stay consistent.
If you’re feeling stretched thin, this isn’t the time for a full health overhaul. Instead, choose one thing—just one—and let that be your anchor.
Here are 3 powerful (and doable) starting points:
- A 10-minute morning walk
- A 5-minute nervous system reset mid-day
- A screen-free bedtime wind-down
These aren’t just habits. They’re signals to your body that reset your rhythms.
Still feel like something’s off? It might be deeper than seasonal stress.
